Pardon the absence. It’s been a little weird trying to get back into the groove of blogging. I think about it a lot, and have tons of things I could write about, but somehow, I just can’t seem to put the words down.
Last week the weather turned amazing – 70 to 80 degrees and SUNNY after what has seemed like the longest, coldest, cloudiest winter I can remember. I know, I am a sissy southerner, and when it’s 34 degrees I am bundled up in my warmest coat and several layers of other clothing. I even wear socks and shoes, which if you know me is completely against my beliefs. Barefoot is absolutely the way to go, but if I must, I will break out my Rainbow flip flops, when shoes are required. My toes like to be free.
In honor of the change of seasons, J. and I headed out to the local lake for a picnic. Being completely impromptu, and not being able to eat cold sandwich meat (really, the things they keep from pregnant women!), we decided to go to Bojangles to get some food on the way. If you don’t know about Bojangles, well, you’re just missing out. And I pity you. Really. But I digress. As we sat there, soaking up the sun and eating our Supreme Dinners, Gummy Bear decided to move around. More accurately, he (I’m saying “he” in hopes that it is a boy) started kicking. Now, I understand that he’s probably been moving around and kicking and punching me for quite some time now, which could be why my abs are so stinking sore, if you can still call them abs. But this was the first time I felt it. And J. could even feel it, putting his hand on my belly. It was a fun little moment, and hasn’t repeated itself since. I’m sure that eventually I will want little Gummy to stop kicking me in the ribs and whatnot, but for now it’s a really fun feeling. At least I think that’s what it was. So I’ve decided that there will be a lot more Bojangles in my future. Darn it.
April is a busy month for me, with May following close behind. Wedding season is upon us, and I have tons of engagement sessions and weddings coming up, along with a lot of traveling. In the next two months I will be in the following places: Charlotte, NYC, Memphis, Wilmington, Harrisburg, Charlotte again, Weaverville, and Wilmington again, along with several other destinations, I’m sure. At the moment I have 6 weddings, 2 engagement sessions, a bridal session, and a graduation. It’ll be a fun couple of months, and I’m sure I’ll be ready for June when things look like they will slow down a bit. But looks can be deceiving, so we shall see.
Joel is sporting his cast for 7 more days at least. For those that don’t know, he broke a couple bones in his hand a while back and refused to see the doctor about it. While he was being stubborn, he did additional damage to his wrist and arm, and has been in a cast for about 4 weeks now. We are hoping that the cast will keep him from having to have surgery. I guess we’ll find out in a few days.
Also, we find out this month the gender of our little Gummy Bear! Joel has been asking me almost every day what I think it is. He wants a boy so badly he can’t stand it. Well, on April 26, as long as the baby cooperates, we will find out. So that’s only 20 more days. Hope he can stand the suspense that long.
I’ve been feeling better lately, but am dealing with migraine headaches, which I’ve never experienced before. The excruciating pain on one side of my head from the moment I wake up in the morning… man it’s making it hard to concentrate on anything or even want to get out of bed. But, like everything else, I hear it’s just a temporary thing, and I sure hope that’s true!
Easter weekend was great – we headed home to see my fam, and my sister, who is in med school (insanely proud of her, btw), was able to come home for the weekend, too! I hadn’t seen her since Christmas, and had to tell her via Skype that we were pregnant, so it was fun to see her in person and so excited. She pulled out her stethoscope to see if she could hear Gummy Bear moving around in my belly, but I think it’s a bit early yet. We also got a good start on some decorations for the baby’s room. I’m painting some canvases with silly animals and other designs to hang in the room. I love doing that kind of thing anyway, so it’s fun, and I love that I’ve pretty much got enough canvases to cover the walls for only $60. I’ll post some pictures soon!
Well, folks, that’s all for now. I’m working on being a better blogger, so if you have ideas about things I can post, I am open to suggestions. Also, I know that a blog is boring without pictures, but I have none to share at the moment. Soon, Joel and I are starting a series of photos of my ever expanding belly, so stay tuned. Hopefully it’ll turn out to be really fun. At the least, I’m sure the grandparents will enjoy it. 🙂
