To Re-Cover a Chair

21 Jan

So, I have this chair.  It’s awesome.  It’s old.  It was my dad’s when he was in college, or shortly thereafter.  It used to have some really beat up brown leather.  Actually, it still has that, it’s just covered up now.

In college I re-upholstered it with some brown fabric with tiny checks.  I got it from the Walmarts for like $1 a yard.  I took this whole chair apart (quite a task in itself) and covered it with the new fabric, and put it all back together again in working order, much to the surprise of my roommates at the time.  I’m looking at you Shelly and Ginny!

Did I mention that it’s a recliner?

A very cool, old, hard to assemble recliner from the 70’s.

Here’s a picture of it.

So the time has come for it to be re-upholstered once again.  The brown check doesn’t work very well with the orange wall – just the wrong color brown.  Plus, I think the room could use a little more color, and bit of brightness, and some contrast against the orange.  So here are the fabrics I’ve found that I like…

Now, it’s your turn to weigh in again.  I need to tie in the orange wall.  But I would like to bring another color in as well.  Maybe blue?  I think I have 2 favorites, but I’ll reserve my opinion until you’ve all had your say.  Which is your favorite for my chair?

I love the Polka Dots!!!! I also like the brown vine with pink buds I believe it is the second one listed. I think the bigger the pattern the more bold it will look and not too busy. Goodluck!
