Alright, interwebs. It is the new year. If you are like me and everyone else in this country, you’ve set yourself a fitness goal for 2011.
This is the time of year that people flock to the gyms and begin new memberships, start taking new classes, only to stop, quit, or forget by March. I’m not pointing fingers. I’m guilty of this, too.
If you read my 2011 goals post, you know that I’ve set some goals for myself. I started last week, and kicked it all off with the Couch to 5k program. You can follow the plan online, but I downloaded the iPhone app, which makes it super easy. It tells you, audibly, when to walk and run, and you can even get it to play your own music in the background.
So. Great. This is just what I needed. You run and walk in intervals, while listening to great music (because you get to choose it), and at the end you can journal about your run – your walking pace, running pace, distance, how you felt, whether you ran on the treadmill or outside, etc. It marks off the workouts as you do them, and automatically gets the next one set up and ready for the next time you run. And then you can send your progress to Facebook or Twitter, which helps me stay accountable. The runs end up being about 30 minutes, which is great for me, because that’s about the amount of time I have while Clara naps.
I finished week 1 and today I started week 2. I also did a weight workout last week, which was awesome and made me super sore. It’s nothing compared to what I did before I was pregnant, but since I haven’t been very active (aside from shooting weddings, oh! and delivering a baby) in the last 10 months, it’s a perfect way to start out. I am ultra motivated to get this baby weight off, because I have about 1 pair of pants that fit right now, and nothing looks cute anymore. My main goal is to get back in decent shape by March, when Joel has spring break.
ALSO! My friend, Heather, completed the Walt Disney World MARATHON yesterday! Yes, I said MARATHON! 26.2 miles, people! I’m so impressed, and I can’t even imagine! She’s amazing! Congratulations on reaching your goal, Heather! You did so great!!!
In other news, last night I discovered Ravelry. Umm, how did I not know about this?? If you’re a knitter or crocheter, you need to check this site out. TONS of free patterns and hours
of time wasting looking through them all inspiration. I can’t wait to try some of these patterns. And I really need to re-learn to knit, because it seems like there’s so much more fun stuff you can do with knitting. Perhaps I will try. I have enough yarn for about 50 million hats, so I guess some experimenting is in order.
I know, I know, you’re waiting with bated breath for those Christmas trip photos. I’m getting there, I promise. I’m just trying to figure out the best way, because, folks, there are a LOT of pictures. And they are too cute to leave any out.
But just because you are so patient, here’s one to tide you over… Clara and her cousin, Camryn, during our Christmas celebration with Joel’s family in Iowa. Are they not just the cutest things you’ve ever seen??!?!? I know, I’m partial…
